Les faits remontent en octobre dernier. Deux garçons âgés respectivement de 17 et 18 ans sont entrés par effraction dans un immeuble inhabité de Brooklyn pour y commettre un acte d’une inqualifiable barbarie. En effet, les deux voyous se sont mis à l’abri du regard pour mettre le feu sur un chat qu’ils ont appréhendé quelque part. Ils ont arrosé l’animal avec un liquide inflammable avant de le brûler. Le chat avait encore un souffle de vie lorsqu’on l’a retrouvé. Mais le degré de brûlure est tel qu’on a dû l’euthanasié pour abréger sa souffrance.
Mais les coupables ont pu être identifiés et arrêtés grâce aux investigations menées ensuite par la Société américaine pour la prévention de la cruauté envers les animaux (ASPCA). Remis à justice, ils risquent une peine pouvant aller jusqu’à 25 ans d’emprisonnement. Ils doivent répondre de trois chefs d’inculpation à savoir incendie volontaire, cruauté aggravée envers des animaux et saccage du bien d’autrui. En effet, non content de s’en prendre à un animal sans défense, les deux jeunes gens ont également mis à sac l’appartement où ils y ont fait irruption.
Ce qui est arrivé à Brooklyn n’est pas un cas isolé. Bon nombre d’animaux de compagnie souffrent chaque instant des sévices perpétrés par leur maître aux dépens de leur vie.

Malheureusement, ce n'est pas un cas isoléSHAFTER, Calif. -- A juvenile was arrested in connection with the cat burned on Sept. 11 in Shafter.
The Shafter Police Department was alerted on an anonymous tip. After an investigation in which Shafter police reviewed witness reports, they made an arrest of a juvenile who later admitted to having burned the cat.
The cat was found burned in Shafter on Sept. 11, and since then, got a second chance at life.

Shyanne Bozarth, Shafter City Animal Control Manager, said BFAS is the largest animal sanctuary in the U.S., specializing in rescuing and rehabilitating special needs animals.
"This is a very lucky cat that otherwise would likely have to be euthanized due to significant long-term care, healing and unsightly scarring," Bozarth said.
