A FEW HOURS TO RAISE AWARENESS TOWARDS ANIMAL WELFARE The 2010 companion animal show season is about to begin and UPRA is once more invited to hold awareness booths at these events.
As in any association, UPRA appeal’s to the generosity of its members to offer a few hours to inform visitors attending these fairs on issues such as puppy mills, ethic breeding and to promote adoption of pets from shelters.
If it is your first time tending an awareness stand and fear you might not know enough on the topic, I can provide the necessary information and support, and this, to help ensure that the welfare of our canine and feline friends improves in Quebec.
It is by informing the public and the media that they will in turn put pressure on our politicians to request better laws and better breeding conditions for pets.
So many people are still not aware of the real cost of the puppy in the window, they do not know what a puppy mill or a backyard breeder is, neither that pet shops are often supplied by brokers or directly from the puppy mills. These fairs are held throughout the province of Quebec, which is why we appeal to all our members to give a few hours for the cause of animal welfare we take so much at heart
Here are two fairs for which we would like to have volunteers , one is in Abitibi Témiscamingue and the second in Saguenay.
The « Salon des animaux de compagnie de l’Abitibi Témiscamingue »The Abitibi Témiscamingue companion animal fair will take place on Saturday May 1st 2010 from 10:00 to 20:00 and Sunday, May 2nd from 10:00 to 17:00.
The SUPERDOGS will be performing at the event.
One of the organisers of the show even proposed to provide the UPRA volunteers with sandwiches, water and soft drinks.
Lets not forget that this region is highly affected by the presence of several puppy mills on its territory.

It is important that a large number of walkers gather to demonstrate their disapproval toward this practice.
